Dear Foreign attendants; The following is a direction to go to Tokyo Station from Narita Airport written by Bob Geller, who always likes an adventure. ================= Narita ---> Tokyo ================= There are several different trains from Narita airport to Tokyo station: Easiest but most expense: "Narita express" train on JR railway (former national railway) that goes directly to Tokyo station (fare = about 3000 yen). Cheapest: ordinary express train (tokkyu) on Keisei private railway (same station as JR Narita, but different platform) to Nippori (next to last stop). ************************************************************************** There are two classes of ordinary trains on the Keisei line that you can board at Keisei's Narita airport station. Most will be the fastest ordinary (no extra fare) express bound for Ueno station. These will go to Nippori without needing to transfer. A few trains (destination other than Ueno) will go as far as Aoto on the Keisei line (about 1hr from Narita) then branch off onto the subway. In this case get off at Aoto, walk to the other side of the same platform, and wait for a train bound for Ueno (this should include all trains). get on any train, and go to Nippori (about 6-8 stops, depending on the train) then get off at Nippori and change to the JR. ************************************************************************** Get off at Nippori and change to JR train (the path from the keisei line to the JR line is clearly marked. Just go up the stairs, and go to the window for people changing to the JR line. Give the guy your Keisei line ticket and say "Tokyo". The JR ticket will cost about (160 yen or so) when you change at Nippori. Once you go through to the JR line, you'll be on an overhead walkway with steps leading down to various platforms. Go down the steps for the (Keihin Tohoku or Yamanote line= either train is OK - they stop on opposite sides of the same platform) bound for Tokyo (6 quick stops= 12 min or so from Nippori). The only tricky part here is that there is another platform for Keihin Tohoku line or Yamanote line trains headed in the opposite direction. If I recall correctly the wrong platform is the very farthest from the Keisei platform and the right one is the one before that. However, there will be signs saying "for Tokyo" in English so this shouldn't be a problem. The Keisei ticket from Narita airport to Nippori is about 1000 yen. Total (including JR ticket) a little under 1200 yen. Time: about 1hr25 min. (Can be faster than JR if you hit the right timing, where you'd have to wait a long time at Narita. Intermediate course: same as above but take Keisei SKYLINER express (a little faster and more comfortable seats) from Narita airport to Nippori (next to last stop). Change to JR as above. I recommend one of the last two if you are willing to undertake a mild adventure.... It's really pretty easy and there are ample signs in English. Otherwsie the first is easiest. Bob
